The autumn meeting of the ISIR was held in Cork on November 14th and 15th in Hayfield Manor. It was our honour to host Professor Tarun Sabharwal from Guys and St Thomas’s Hospitals in London. Professor Sabharwal has been a leader in interventional radiology and has trained many interventional radiologists through the superb program run out of Guys and St Thomas’s Hospitals. Professor Sabharwal gave a talk entitled “Keeping up with new procedures” on Friday night and had to follow that by leading the complications session on Saturday morning.

Tarun was also asked to act as judge for the hotly contested ISIR audit prize which was won by Dr Darragh Waters for a presentation entitled “Audit of Transradial Access in Interventional Radiology Procedures at St Vincent’s University Hospital” The group were also addressed by Dr Paul Galvin, Tyndall Institute UCC who spoke about Technology & Innovation in Healthcare. The Tyndall Institute is a leading deep-tech research centre based in University College Cork and serves as Ireland’s largest research organization.

Dr Maeve Crowley, Consultant haematologist and coagulopathy lead in CUH also spoke about the management of coagulopathy and NOACs for interventional radiologists. We were also joined by Dr Nazia Khan who spoke about the relationship between IR and anaesthesiology and about The Society of Anaesthesia and Radiology.
